When people discover that I am a chiropractor and they try to inform me that they do not 'believe' in chiropractic, I chuckle to myself and think, "That's funny. I didn't know that Chiropractic had become a religion. I guess I didn't know we needed believers!" While I do not actually verbalize this snarky response, I believe it is quite an appropriate approach to the dilemma. Chiropractic DOES exist. Whether some people want it to or not, it is here and we (my fellow colleagues, myself, and our patients) are not going anywhere! Support of chiropractic will greatly affect our success; however, disbelief in our existence neither changes our reality nor dissuades us from being.
The truth in everything we do is that we do very little but achieve so much. A chiropractor, re: chiropractic, itself, provides very small, precise motion into otherwise restricted areas of your spine and other joints. Sometimes, you hear or feel this motion (feel as in notice a realignment); sometimes you do not. The sensation of the motion is not the goal of MOST adjustments; although, improved range of motion and flexibility are a common and appreciated response. Rather, the goal of the adjustment is simply to induce movement where previously it was diminished or non-existent. This motion, in turn, induces a neuro-chemical-physiological reaction along the vertebrae in your spine, which creates a better sense of your body in space (perceived in your brain), begins a chemical response that may create a change in the presence of cells related to immunity, inflammation and pain perception, etc., and allows the nerves in the area to 'reboot,' creating an opportunity for a refreshed communication pattern between your spinal nerves, your brain and your body!
Seriously. What DO you have to lose? So much can be achieved naturally, without taking a drug to mask your symptoms or undergoing surgery to simply give up on your body's INNATE ability to recover. See what chiropractic can do for you. You can be your own doctor, prescribe yourself something that doesn't have a long list of contraindications or negative side-effects. Do good for your body, help yourself heal, then see what your body does for you!
I triple dog dare you.
Yours in health,
Dr. Baar
