Clearly, the doctors in this office believe in Innate. So much so, we put it right in our name. That being said, we do not ever tire of talking about Innate, or giving Innate the credit it is due.
Your body is a beautiful masterpiece. And quite honestly, it knows what it needs even more than you consciously think you know what you need. AND, it knows what it needs even more than we doctors know. Some of us do not like to admit that, but you won't find Dr. Miller or Dr. Baar on that side of the fence. You are your own doctor! Your body is perfectly capable of taking care of itself. Sometimes, though, it can get a little sidetracked or delayed, because it cannot communicate with itself as well as it expects. This is usually caused by a subluxation in your spinal column, which prevents your body's natural phone line (or fiber optics cables, for those of us more 21st Century folk), from relaying information between your brain and the limbs, muscles, organs, tissues and cells in your body. THIS is where we chiropractors come in. Because we are trained to locate the sites of subluxation, through orthopedic tests, information you verbally reveal to us, symptom patterns and direct touch, we can go directly to the site of subluxation, release the restriction and allow your body's Innate processes to resume at their normal level. We do not heal you; we help you heal yourself! And THAT is a beautiful thing.
Sometimes, Innate may not be in tune with your to-do list, or your time frame. You may have some sciatica symptoms, you may have that migraine; your Innate is aware that these things are going on, and it is aware that they are not 'normal.' However, Innate is also tackling a seemingly impossible daily To Do list, just to keep you alive. Add to that list the requirements for healing from the day-to-day traumas we survive (poor diets, inactive lifestyles, emotional upsets, bumps/bruises/breaks, etc.), and our Innate is stressed to the max. I firmly believe that Innate functions well under these pressures, but every being does have limits. There are things you can do to give an assist to Innate, so that you function better and so that Innate can focus on keeping you happy, healthy and well. Maintenance visits to your chiropractor are a good place to start. This keeps your spinal column healthy and mobile, allowing proper communication between your brain and your body. Avoiding an overload of unhealthy foods and unhealthy entertainment are also a good place to start. Taking the stairs instead of the elevator/escalator can burn a few extra calories, work some body structures that aren't typically worked, and trigger the release of chemicals that affect your positive moods. All of these small things can actively remove some items from your Innate's To Do list and help you become more proactive in your total wellness lifestyle. The less Innate has to do to correct for our minor inconveniences, the more time it has to focus on preventing your sciatica or migraine symptoms and/or simply keep you alive!
